The Burren was released in 2017 and features Geoff’s original compositions for solo guitar.
In 2016 I took a trip with my wife Marina to ‘The Burren’ in Co Clare on the West coast of Ireland and began writing the title track – the land is covered in amazing limestone formations and if you look out across the sea you can see Galway Bay.
I’m often inspired by nature and many of the pieces were written in the quiet outdoors. In the Spanish Pyrenees I spent a night in a derelict village called ‘Herba-Sabina’ (Juniper Herb) and the next day the piece came to me while I was walking and ‘The Quest’ was written during a night alone in the woods in Sussex.
My guitars were both hand-made in Lewes, East Sussex – the steel string guitar was made for me by Nick Benjamin and I made the nylon string guitar myself with the help of Richard Osborne and Cameron Mobbs.
My compositions blend my classical training with a love of Spanish and Celtic music and a background in healing. I have also studied jazz and like to bring in jazz chords and use a mixture of standard, drop D and DADGAD tunings.
