Herba-Sabina (Juniper Herb) was written while I was hiking through the Spanish Pyrenees in 2016 and is the only time I have written a piece without having a guitar with me. Named after a derelict village I camped out in where General Franco had massacred a family 50 years earlier, I left with a sadness that turned into this song.
I spent the following day alone sitting close to the edge of a very high cliff allowing myself to experience my fear of heights, looking down on the vultures as they flew below me and wrote out the piece as I heard it in my mind.
It was another 7 days before I was reunited with my guitar and I was amazed to hear what I had written actually matched what I had heard!
